+ Elma McClain + Funeral Service

Elma E. McLain, 88, of Elgin, NE passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Albion, NE.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, NE, with Rev. David Kuhfal officiating. Burial will be at the West Cedar Valley Cemetery, Elgin, NE. Visitation will be 5:00 -7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Huffman-Levander Funeral Home in Elgin, NE.

Elma Elizabeth McLain, the daughter of John and Hattie (Bernstrauch) Stange, was born November 24, 1929 at Norfolk, NE.  She attended District 16 grade school and attended Norfolk High School, graduating from there in 1947.  Following her high school graduation, she was employed as a sewing instructor at Singer Sewing Center.

On June 17, 1949, Elma was united in marriage to Donald McLain at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk.  In 1953, the couple moved to South Dakota.  Upon their return in 1963, they settled in Elgin, NE, where Don was a meat cutter at Ray’s Superette for 25 years.

Elma was involved in child care, and was also employed by the Dr. Dale Jillson family for 37 years.  She also worked at Blair Motors and the Elgin Review.  Elma had a great love for making quilts and sewing for others.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, L.W.M.L., and the Red Hat Society.  Elma also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling, and camping.

Elma is survived by sons: Dr. Greg (Barbara) McLain of Shawnee, OK, and their children: Mary, Matt, and Mark; Michael (Linda) McLain of Hays, KS, and their children: Sarah and Andy; Tim McLain of Lincoln, NE; daughter: Shirley Reicks of Columbus, NE, and her children: Corey, Daniel, Kayla, and Brooke.  And also eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don; son-in-law: James Reicks; grandson Micah McLain; her parents; one brother; and four sisters.

+ Lauraine Waid + Funeral, Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Lauraine L. (Schultz) Waid, 88 of Elgin, NE, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 28, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m Wednesday, with visitation being one-hour prior, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, NE. Reverend David Kuhfal will officiate. Burial will follow immediately at Rose Hill Cemetery at Albion, NE.

Lauraine Lottie (Schultz) Waid passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 28, 2012 in Elgin, Nebraska. Born on February 17, 1924 to Carl and Laurahulda Magdalena (Rhode) Schultz on the family farm near Russell, North Dakota, Lauraine grew up in her beloved North Dakota. She graduated from Russell, North Dakota High School, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class and played in the State girls’ basketball tournament. Lauraine was known for her flaming red hair and her love of music. She played the clarinet in the high school orchestra, and frequently sang as soloist at marriages and funerals.

Lauraine worked her way through college, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in business and a minor in music from Minot State Teachers College in Minot, North Dakota. There she met her future husband, Francis Ray “Joe” Waid during WWII. They were married on February 24, 1946 in Norfolk, Nebraska. Lauraine worked as the Principal and teacher at Center High School in 1945-1946 before the birth of her first child, JoAnn. In 1951, Lauraine and Joe settled in Albion, Nebraska, where they built their first home and Waid Pharmacy together, and raised their seven children. After raising her family, Lauraine worked in the Alliance office of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services for 17 years, until 2001.

She is survived by her seven children, 16 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, including: JoAnn Christensen of Joplin, Missouri (granddaughter Treva, grandson Tyler and his wife Kim and great-grandchildren Kael, Mareika, Tatum, and Tyler Christensen, Jr.); Brian Waid and his wife Ruthie, of Seattle, Washington (grandson Stephen and granddaughter Erin); Barry Waid of Lincoln, Nebraska (grandson Jay and granddaughter Britain); Dr. Michael Waid and his wife Dr. Lori Hansen Waid of Yankton, South Dakota (grandsons Michael and Matthew and granddaughter Leah); Lori Splinter and husband William Splinter of Palmdale, California (grandsons Wil and Garrett); Sherry Mitchell and husband Tom Mitchell of Newnan, Georgia (grandsons Derrek and Robert), and; Shelley Bode and her husband Charlie Bode of Elgin, Nebraska (granddaughters Jamie and Ashley, and grandson Chad). Lauraine’s brother Alfred Schultz and his wife Evangeline of Bismark, North Dakota, and her sister Myrtle Louise Schultz of Fargo, North Dakota also survive her.

Lauraine died secure in her faith and the knowledge that her family loved her dearly, and was comforted in knowing that she had helped create a legacy of achievement through them.
